Oksana Syroid appealed to the Security Service, the Prosecutor General’s Office, and the Regulatory Committee following the yesterday’s events in the parliament

Vice-Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Oksana Syroid, has sent an appeal to the Prosecutor General and the heads of the Security Service and the Regulatory Committee regarding the yesterday’s presence of representatives of law enforcement agencies in the session hall of the parliament.

“Yesterday the police were dragged into political games and forced to break the law by bringing its employees to the session hall. In the place where people profess democracy, there cannot be any serviceman or policeman. The only exception is when they report to the parliament within the framework of parliamentary control.

Let’s recall Crimea, how the Verkhovna Rada of the Autonomous Republic was captured. We do not know who the next people that will want to come to the parliament will be. And we do not know for what purpose they will come.

Since yesterday we no longer have any guarantees whether the apparatus and the security of the Verkhovna Rada will protect the parliament. Parliament as a whole, not just individual deputies,” says Oksana Syroyid.

The Vice-Speaker notes that the parliament is the only state body whose activity distinguishes dictatorship from democracy: “Those who undermine the parliament undermine democracy. Those who encourage people in the uniform’s roaming in the session hall of the parliament are pushing the state towards a military dictatorship.”
