On June 14, Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Oksana Syroyid held a discussion with students of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv on the topic “Ukraine in War: to Stay or Not to Stay?”
“Young people want to be successful. To be well-to-do and independent,” Oksana Syroyid said after the meeting. “A lot of young people today think that Ukraine cannot be the country of success for them. They are inclined to such thinking because of the fact that we have never had real statehood, a real success story. They doubt that Ukraine can become the state of their success. On the other hand, they do not believe either that they themselves can become that state, they can change it and make it successful.”
“That is why we want to establish a dialogue with the youth,” continues the Vice Speaker, “in order to show them, on the one hand, that we are capable of many things, that we are so talented that we can be successful anywhere. On the other hand, that we, like other states, should achieve success here. It is much easier to join someone else’s success, but the truth is that there was someone who had achieved this success in the first place. The Germans made Germany successful, the French made France successful, the Americans made the United States successful. We are all over the world and we are part of that success. Why cannot we make it here?”
“First and foremost, we must believe in ourselves to do this. Secondly, one must believe that the state is about themselves, that there is no one else, only we can do everything the way we want. At any level – at the university, at an enterprise, in government bodies, local government. Wherever you are, you are the state that can change something,” Oksana Syroyid concludes.
