Vice Speaker Oksana Syroyid sees the extension of the action of the so-called Law on the special status of Donbas as a threat to the state security.
“This is the legalization of the Russian concept of civil war in Ukraine. Its idea is simply to destroy Ukraine from within. And for 4 years this law has been only weakening the position of our state in the world. People start to forget that it was Russia that attacked Ukraine in the first place.”
Moreover, the extension of this law contradicts the logic and the already adopted documents: “We have already adopted the so-called Reintegration Law, where we recognized that these territories in the East are occupied by Russia. How can we talk today about the peculiarities of local government in these territories? This is absurd, this is schizophrenia.”
With respect to the statements that the special status of Donbas is required by the Minsk agreements, Syroyid responds that the law had been passed before the Minsk agreements. In addition, she asks why over the four years of the actual impotence of the Minsk process no alternative to it has been proposed.
“We are told that there is no alternative to the Minsk agreements. But has anybody tried to find such an alternative? It is the duty of the President to look for an alternative, and in the 4 years no one has done anything.”
