Oksana Syroyid: “Running in the presidential election is not like going to the market; it’s a very responsible process”

Commenting on the information about possible political associations for the presidential elections, Vice Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Oksana Syroyid notes: “The presidential election is a very important process. It’s not like going to the market. One cannot wake up in the morning and say: “I’m going to run for presidency.”

She continues, “The president is a person who controls 50% of Ukraine’s budget, 500 billion hryvnias. There is no person in the whole universe who is capable of coping with such responsibility on his/her own. That is, there must be a team, there must be an understanding of what to do about it all.”

The Vice-Speaker emphasizes, “I have great respect for many people who are now voicing their intentions to run for presidency. But the question is, who is going to manage those 500 billion with you? Who are these people? How are they going to do this? When it comes to Samopomich, I know who these people are, and I know what their principles are. But there are cases when behind some new person, there are same old oligarchs who will come along with such a new president and will go on governing the country the way they have been doing it for 27 years.”

Therefore, Oksana Syroyid concludes, the point is not to unite around individuals, but to unite around ideas, resources and abilities. She summarizes:

“I believe, today it is wise to unite around Samopomich. We must unite around understanding, because we have it, and there is no doubt today that Samopomich has the abilities.”
