Bereziuk: Despotic tendencies are becoming more and more tangible

Despotic tendencies are becoming more and more tangible in Ukraine. This was stated by the Chairman of the “Samopomich Union” faction, Oleh Bereziuk, at the coordination board.
“In the Verkhovna Rada there is now a bill that once again turns the Prosecutor’s Office in an unconstitutional militaristic body of repressions. Moreover, it destroys anti-corruption bodies, including the National Anti-Corruption Bureau,” said the MP.
Bereziuk has also recalled that in the Parliament there is another bill that destroys electronic declaration.
“If we put these things together, it becomes clear why the Anti-Corruption Bureau is being destroyed – corruption is what is supposed to hold the oppressive regime together,” said the head of the “Samopomich” faction.
“Meanwhile they tell us that it is necessary to have the presumption of innocence of the police. “Obey and claim.” But without a fair trial this is the path to a police state. We can protect the police by providing them with quality trainings for development and education – let’s apply our forces to do this,” says the lawmaker.
Another danger, according to Oleh Bereziuk, is further changes to the law “On civil service”.
“The President wants to personally appoint not only all the governors, but also their deputies, as well as to control the careers of civil servants. This is done bypassing the Constitution, since the corresponding amendments to it weren’t adopted last year. This is another attempt to establish a dictatorship. They are trying to impose the yoke of authoritarianism onto the people of Ukrainian who have twice defended their freedom,” sums up Bereziuk.
