Budget deficit can be significantly reduced by eliminating corruption at customs, Bereziuk

The state budget deficit can be significantly reduced through elimination of corruption schemes at the customs and at the state enterprise “Naftogaz Ukraine”, the chairman of the “Samopomich” parliamentary faction, Oleh Bereziuk, believes.
There has always been this “hole” in the budget; nevertheless, there is an easy way to cover it – by eliminating the corruption schemes at the customs and in “Naftogaz”. If the state covers the “holes” with the help of law enforcement agencies and high-quality anti-corruption fight, the budget deficit will continue to decrease. We have to realize that tremendous sums of money do not go to the state budget because they “escape” through the customs. And this is possible because of one simple reason – pure and simple there are no scanners there. For a couple of years we have repeatedly heard that there is no money for that; but for the funds that have “passed by” the state budget we could have bought as many scanners as necessary to equip all the customs in Ukraine,” stated Bereziuk.
In addition, the MP has emphasized that the government along with the parliament should take a responsible approach towards work on the state budget for 2017.
“It is of vital importance for MPs together with the government to finally break the tradition of the draft budget being introduced into the parliament at the last moment, which takes its toll on all of us in the long run. We simply need to comply with the laws,” summed up Bereziuk.
We shall recall that the government has to submit the draft state budget for 2017 by September 15, 2016.
