Today representatives of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc, People’s Front, the Opposition Bloc, and the “Revival” group officially initiated the procedure for recalling Yehor Soboliev from the position of the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Prevention and Combating Corruption: during the committee meeting, 12 members recognized Yehor Soboliev’s work as unsatisfactory and recommended to Parliament to remove him from office.
Yehor Soboliev himself believes that such actions of the authorities are another attempt to take control over all anti-corruption bodies. “For 15 months I have been preventing Poroshenko and Co. from appointing a dependent auditor of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, with the help of which they wanted to do away with the team of Artem Sytnyk. The candidacies of Robert Storch (FBI auditor), Martha Borsch (prosecutor at the US trial against Lazarenko), and Carlos Castresana (head of the anticorruption tribunal for Guatemala) recommended by the committee under my leadership, did not suit our kleptocrats. Now they are counterattacking,” notes the MP.
