Date: December 18, 2017
Place: Ukrainian Crisis Media Center
Event: Briefing with MPs from the Samopomich faction Olena Sotnyk and Serhiy Kiral on the occasion of the presentation of the Magnitsky Act in the Ukrainian parliament.
Reference: The Ukrainian “Magnitsky Act” is aimed at applying sanctions in the form of a ban on the right to enter and freezing of assets in Ukraine. The list of persons on whom it is proposed to impose sanctions actually coincides with the sanction lists of the United States and Great Britain, as well as with the one approved by the Council of Europe.
For Ukraine, which is at war with Russia, imposing sanctions against the Federation’s officials, judges, law enforcers, and people guilty of violating human rights is directly related to national security.
In addition to this, the adoption of the bill by the Verkhovna Rada in the context of the Russian-Ukrainian war is an important step in protecting Ukrainians who have become prisoners of the Russian Federation and the regime of Vladimir Putin.
