People’s deputy of the Samopomich Union faction appeal to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with a demand to deprive him of his parliamentary immunity in connection with the registration of a criminal proceeding by the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine against him.
“In order to prevent manipulation, next week I will appeal to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with a demand to deprive me of my parliamentary immunity,” says Andriy Zhurzhiy.
Despite the fact that today the law provides for the procedure of removing the immunity only upon the submission of the Prosecutor General, Samopomich faction has drafted and registered in the Parliament a bill №5487, which greatly simplifies the procedure of bringing MPs to criminal liability, and allows lifting the immunity upon the appeal of people’s deputies themselves.
Therefore, Andriy Zhurzhiy emphasizes that the Verkhovna Rada must urgently consider the bill and adopt it.
The MP adds, “The case against me is the reaction of the Prosecutor General and the State Fiscal Service to my demands to dismiss Nasirov and Bilan because of their pressure on business and criminal compensation of VAT, since the Prosecutor General told me personally that the criminal proceeding had been registered on the basis of an analytical report of the Fiscal Service itself. So I want to defend my interests and continue to fight with the law-enforcement system as an ordinary citizen with no immunities.”
